Well done to all students who competed in this weekends 5th Open Championships in Manchester, we had the best weekend ever with not only 100% gold results in all poomsae categories entered we also came overall first place receiving a lovely trophy for the club. Not only did we take the golds, Leah, Bill, Matius and Ethan also went on to win the champion of champions trophies. We also had Arantxa and Master Abilio who were given special mentions for their fine judging over Saturday and Sunday receiving a special award also. John had his first experience of coaching in the chair and as a corner judge and done a great job helping the kids to gold.

We didn't stop there with 7 students also competing in the sparring side of the competition we managed to take 3 golds, 2 silver and a bronze! First to fight on the mat was Matias he fought a good fight, never giving up and it was a close battle till the end, he just lost out to the the winner of the whole category still receiving a bronze medal. Next up was Zaw he was fighting in his first competition not that you could tell he was confident and out fought his first opponent by far, he lost out in his final by a more experienced fighter but pushed him to the end, he took silver. Next Stanley and Ethan were fighting on opposite mats at the same time. Stanley had a great fight even being asked to give his opponent a chance in the second round! but  not through lack of trying he lost out to a more experienced opponent in the final. Ethan fought a great fight and one of the most exciting losing out just slightly, he fought with heart as he always does never giving up, I'm sure we will be seeing gold soon. Becca was placed in two categories giving her the chance to have three fights, she enjoyed all, this time using her brain and out thinking her opponents, she won all three with ease winning gold in both categories. Sunday we saw all the A class competing with some great fights and fighters. Daniel was up first losing to a black belt and at the end of the day after a hard fight Hayley took Gold also winning her category.

Overall what a great weekend with lots of the students and parents coming together as a team cheering each other on and helping each other out.

Pictures coming soon.
